The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has instructed MultiChoice Nigeria to maintain its current subscription rates while investigations are ongoing.
It was previously reported that the Pay-TV provider planned to implement a 21% increase in subscription fees for its DStv and GOtv packages, set to take effect on March 1, 2025.
In response to this announcement, the FCCPC pledged to investigate the price increase and summoned the company’s executives to clarify the reasons behind the proposed hike.
MultiChoice Nigeria later sought an extension for its appearance before the commission.
In a statement released on Thursday by Ondaje Ijagwu, the FCCPC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, it was confirmed that while the extension was granted, the company is now required to attend the meeting.
“In line with this, MultiChoice is explicitly directed to uphold the current pricing structure as of February 27, 2025, while awaiting the Commission’s review and final decision on the issue.
“The statement emphasized that preserving the existing pricing is crucial to avoid any possible harm to consumers during this time.”
