Landmark CEO Addresses Concerns Over Coastal Highway’s Impact on Landmark Beach Resort

Paul Onwuanibe, CEO of Landmark Africa Group, reassured the public that the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is unlikely to disrupt operations at Landmark Beach Resort. Speaking via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Onwuanibe responded to growing concerns and media attention regarding the highway’s potential effects on the resort.

Following a visit by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, to the resort, Onwuanibe expressed optimism that ongoing discussions would safeguard Landmark Group’s tourism ventures, including Landmark Beach, its associated businesses, and the numerous jobs they support.

Expressing gratitude for Umahi’s visit and concern, Onwuanibe emphasized the importance of preserving Landmark Beach and its ecosystem. He expressed support for the coastal road construction, viewing it as an opportunity to bolster tourism in the region.

Onwuanibe stressed the need for win-win solutions that balance the construction project’s objectives with the preservation of Landmark Beach, ensuring the livelihoods of the families dependent on the tourism destination.

The Federal Government recently announced the commencement of the construction of the 700-kilometer Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, with the first phase contract valued at N1.07 trillion. Minister Umahi highlighted the project’s scope, including a 47.47km dual carriageway with five lanes on each side and a central train track, emphasizing its concrete construction.

The highway, spanning nine states with additional spurs leading northward, aims to enhance transportation infrastructure while accommodating the region’s growing traffic demands.
