LSWRC Head Invited to Prestigious Global Water Summit in London

Funke Adepoju, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission, has received a special invitation to attend the esteemed Global Water Summit in London.

In an official statement released on Sunday, the agency proudly announced, “The Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission is thrilled to share that our esteemed Executive Secretary, Mrs. Funke Adepoju, has been honored with a VIP invitation to the upcoming Global Water Summit in London. This exclusive event, gathering 300 of the world’s foremost water leaders, will delve into crucial issues confronting the global water sector today.”

Taking place at Sofitel, Heathrow, London, from April 15 to 17, 2024, this year’s summit will feature Mrs. Adepoju as a prominent figure leading discussions on a high-level panel titled ‘Determining Tariffs for Transformation.’

This panel aims to explore innovative strategies for setting water tariffs that ensure the sustainability of water services while facilitating the transformation of water infrastructures to meet future demands.”

The LSWRC emphasized that Adepoju’s invitation underscores her exemplary leadership and the significant strides achieved under her stewardship in managing and regulating Lagos State’s water resources.

“It’s a testament to her dedication and the successful implementation of sector policies that prioritize economic efficiency, social equity, and environmental sustainability,” the statement continued.

“The Global Water Summit provides a valuable platform for water leaders to exchange insights, innovations, and strategies to tackle the world’s most pressing water challenges.”

Adepoju expressed her excitement about the invitation, stating, “It’s a privilege to represent Lagos State and Nigeria at the Global Water Summit. I eagerly anticipate contributing to discussions on tariffs and engaging with global leaders to promote sustainable water management practices adaptable to diverse regions, including our own.”

Meanwhile, in other water regulatory news, the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LSWRC) has taken action against certain packaged water production factories for failing to meet Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). This move comes as part of the Lagos State Government’s intensified inspections of bottled and sachet water facilities.

During last year’s World Water celebration, the LSWRC revealed that Lagos requires approximately 650 million gallons of water per day to meet its needs.
