Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), has stated that the four tax bills currently under consideration by the National Assembly pose no threat to the existence of any government agency or the jobs of individuals.
Adedeji provided this reassurance on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with the chief executive officers of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
This statement comes in response to concerns that the proposed renaming of FIRS to Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) might result in the tax agency absorbing several federal agencies.
“I want to assure you that there is nothing in the bills that will diminish your funding, effectiveness, or efficiency. The primary goal is to improve tax efficiency and simplify compliance,” Adedeji emphasized.
