Cash Shortage: Commercial Banks Staff Sells Naira for POS- Ex-lawmaker

Amid the scarcity of cash in Nigeria, a Kogi State-born political activist and immediate past House of Representative candidate for Dekina/Bassa federal constituency, Usman Okai Austin, on Tuesday accused some Senior staff of commercial banks of selling money to Point of Sales, PoS, operators.

Okai said it is now clear that PoS terminals are active while commercial banks are strapped for cash.

In a statement he signed, Okai said: “The story that the CBN is not giving them enough money or responding to their requests for money is just a story.

“Some commercial banks are selling money directly to some important personalities, from whom they receive N250,000 from N2,000.00 Notifications for them and make money.”

Okai added that the blame game against the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, is nothing but a scam.

He added: “I am not speaking for the CBN and I am not blaming them, but we must own our actions and tell others the truth.

“If commercial banks want us to withdraw money from ATMs, they will charge them. They must stop using the points of sale as a new business in the city. Citizens are suffering untold hardships and this is common among women and men of small businesses who go to the market.

“Meanwhile, citizens continue to suffer due to this unholy practice for which the CBN, commercial banks and outlet operators accept responsibility.”
